nw NC | I went to a dairy dispersal auction near 40 years ago where 400 tons of corn silage in a pit was auctioned. A young man and has father bid $40/ton and were asked how much of it they wanted. They said all of it. I heard several dairymen in the crowd discussing the high price it brought. One said , " At that price that could be 800 to 1,000 dollars per acre for your corn." I left the sale before it was over , but I heard the next day that the bidders ended up not taking the silage. When they handed the clerk a check for $ 1,600, the clerk told them it is $16,000 not $1,600 . Clerk had to show them they were wrong in their calculation, they were short one zero! | |
