Subject: RE: Statistics, % of farmers with trade/hedge accounts

Marketing only accounts for 16% of what makes farmers succeed according to statistics. Keeping machinery and input costs under control is what has a larger impact on success. Those facts are why I choose to be average as a marketer and put my focus on the 84% that really matters. I do a little of everything but common sense and playing for average have helped me the most when it comes to marketing. Interest expense and grain hauling cost are very important considerations when looking a true storage cost. I watch a lot of debt strapped young guys store grain because dad does. They fail to understand the cost of borrowed money in relation to storage. older guys that are not as leveraged SHOULD store grain. Young guys should find the most efficient way to turn grain into cash WITHOUT storage. Just because you own the bin doesn't make the storage free.
