SE Illinois
My Father in Law goes out west twice a year dog hunting, has been doing it for the last 20 yrs or so. He takes a lot of guns, likes to shoot them all. Up close hunting he will use a .22 pistol with a Halo sight, .17 and .22 rifles with bull barrels. Intermediate and long shots he uses 22-250, 223, and a gun he calls a 20 practical. I think that is some sort of necked down 223.

I would say the guns he uses the most are his AR 223's, he does a lot of reloading and has the most brass for these guns.

The time I went with him I shot a Browning 308, worked well except muzzle break was loud and when bagged up on the ground threw a lot of dust up.

You will be fine with those guns you mentioned, 223 will be the most common. Shoot them all, have fun, it was great when I went. Only problem he goes in spring and fall when we are busy farming.
