Subject: RE: Good prairie dog rifles?

we go shoot dogs every year, I have a heavy barrel AR I shoot custom loads thru, a 204 I shoot 32 grain vmax's thru, and a 17 wsm. The savage 17 WSM is absolutely my fav gun to shoot them with 150 yds and under. I got the savage BMAG heavy barrel and put it in a custom stock. They have the target model now which I would recommend. The 204 will really reach out there and touch the dogs, got one at 463 yards last year with it, but I shoot plenty and know the dope of my scope. I don't really care too much for the AR even though it shoots great. I want to get a 223 bolt action that will take like a 10 rd clip, heavy barrel and thumbhole stock. That would be the best gun in my opinion. If you don't have that much experience shooting long range, try and get 150 yards and in and the 17 WSM will shine, no recoil, ammo is cheap, and its not going to make a boom the whole county can hear. If I put a silencer on the 17 it will be an ever more deadly dog rifle.
