| Never thought I'd ever be able to quit my town job. Was lucky by taking chances on buying land when it crashed in the 80's depending mainly on non-farm income.
Finally got my debt asset ratio down to a point where I thought maybe I could quit my job, but it really came down to where it was taking too much out of me doing both, so I took a chance and quit after 20 years working in town before the age of 40.
That was in late 1995, then spring of 1996 corn rallied into the low $5/bu. That sure helped and I've never looked back.
I was pretty sure if I'd kept working in town, my lifespan odds were going to lower significantly. Lots more quality time for family now.
Making some adjustments as one ages can be beneficial, as can taking some chances and challenges.
Wishing you good luck. | |
