South Dakota | I think it's best to slowly wean yourself off of the off farm income. For my dad, it took about 25 years of slowly working from full time, to part time, very part time, and then nothing at all. Also, paying people to do some of the more time consuming work helps in expanding, while not increasing your time requirement too much. It's a question of how much is your time worth, can you pay someone $15/hour to sit on a tractor so you can make $25/hour at work? Also, I found part time jobs were I get bang for my buck. I'm an officer in the Marine Corps reserve, so I make good money on drill weekends, then in off times of the year, I look for extra active duty where I can pick up more money. Those are the things that worked for me. | |
