west central MN | 1234 - 8/28/2016 07:59 Is everyone out there in the Midwest so competitive, so afraid that their neighbor might make an extra few bucks that they can't not plant that 20 acres, 50, whatever acres?
There are a lot of guys out there that are that competitive. They are going to farm more land than their neighbor no matter what the cost. I am not so sure that is a bad thing as if we aren't competitive we would not be so efficient as farmers, however with all of us being that competitive we are going to drive the price of rent and land up to the point where it will not break even if we have any kind of a set back in prices. I don't think the price matters too much as the market is going to fluctuate and every once in a while we will have to get back to reality on land prices. If everyone cuts back and corn prices go back to $7.00 that is not going to fix anything as land cost and all other costs are just going to go up with it. It would just delay the process of resetting the cost's. It is going to happen some time we just don't know if we have started the reset now or if the weather the next couple of years will help us with prices and delay the setback again. |
