I plan a slightly different approach. Bin it and carry over 10% to create my own personal grain reserve. When a drought year comes, I'll have some corn to sell. Cheap interest makes carry cost reasonable. I have a bigger crop than normal this year. I'll just pretend I did not raise quite as much, treat it as it goes into the bin, and "bank" it.
No different than earning negative interest on savings.
Governments are not the only ones that can create grain reserves.
