NW Central Ohio | ...here in Ohio, your biggest problem with the mid size varmint calibers (.243, 6mm, .25-06, .257 Roberts) is the population density. Remember a rifle like these can launch a bullet approximately 5 miles if held at the proper angle. There are bullets that make them a lot safer. They are built to destroy themselves into very small pieces at the slightest contact with vegetation, etc. I think if you want a cheap, accurate rifle you wouldn't be wrong to look for a used 788 Remington in .222 or .223 caliber. If you like to reach out a little further, a .22-250 isn't unreasonable. They can all be very accurate in properly tuned rifles. When going with things like the .204 Ruger, you run in to availability problems with ammunition. I want the kind of rifle I can walk into virtually any store and pick up a box of shells for. | |
