I know I'm late to the party.
You typed the word invest. I can't be the only one that would recommend the .220 swift. A bull barrel will help with your breathing habits. Half the fun is seeing prairie dogs explode by a 22 cal. bullet flying at over 4000 fps.
A good glass and you're on your way to 350-375 yard kills.
