NEMO | Pretty sure Bates county has the local option fence law. So each landowner is responsible for the right half of the fence, even if the landowner doesn't own any livestock.
If cattle get through your half of the fence, go out your open gate and get hit by a car, you(landowner) are liable, not the livestock owner.
Also, I think there is a clause that if you shoot animals that come through your half of fence, animal owner can get double damages from landowner.
