I'm finding that with my new car that I can't trust different gas pumps to shut off at the same fill amount. Last spring one pump was slow and put in a couple gallons more than the gas gauge indicated was needed and cut the mileage on that fill to 30 while the computer was showing 38.8. The next fill at a different station computed at 45.5. The total miles for the two fills and total gas for the two fills computed 38.5. Both fills were supposedly E-10 and there was lots of highway driving on the second tank plus a couple days in the twin cities. Raising the tire pressure 2 psi raised the gas mileage and the gas mileage has slowly risen as the engine gets broken in. Like my experience in 1975 or so, tire pressure had more effect on gas mileage than driving speed though we were forced down to 55 from 70 to stretch the gas supply. Now the new car's computer is claiming 43 average while the gas pump is more often 41.5.
