West Tennessee | I agree. It sure is a finicky crop sometimes. We can go for years with decent (60-90bu) yields and few problems. Then a year like last year comes along and issues all over. I almost quit it after last year but decided to try and do better so I cut my acreage and managed a little better. The crop this year was just ok at around 70bu but we had a REALLY wet spring so it was hard to expect much. I am going to keep growing it but keep my acreage really manageable (as in only what we can spray/fertilize in a short day for us). If I ever increase my acreage back again then I'll know what I need to do management wise to cover it. It does help to build soil and rotate for us. | |
