Sanilac Co. Michigan | Nitrogen management can be tricky. Depending on when it goes in you might apply three times through the entire season. Typically a little at sowing, a little more at green up and the lions share at jointing. The first two are really for managing tillers, the last is for making grain. Put it all on too early and you're really asking for lodging problems and you can end up with 120 bu. straw and 60 bu. grain. (and rust and fusarium and powdery mildew and the list goes on). I suppose in hard red wheat you might make four applications with the last for increasing the protein in the wheat? | |
