Been no tilling beans for close to 15 years here. Do not chop stalks, long and tall is best. I tried a chopping corn head, never again. No coulter, just row cleaners, preferably floating. There will be times no till doesn't work so you need a plan B when conditions get wet. A pass with some kind of coulter machine helps a lot. Doesn't need to be a fancy one, just a bar with coulters every 10 inches does wonders. I've gotten to the point that tillage just seems silly now.
It may be silly to you, and no offense by the way, but I think no tilling on perfectly flat ground is just plain silly. In my area no-til defanately has its place in our rolling hills, but all no tillers, everyone are relying on more herbicide 100%. All of the time when hearing people talk about the benefits of notill, rarely do you ever hear about the two or three passes with the sprayer EVERY year. I guess to most its not a big deal, to me it is. |
