I'm south of you a ways in somewhat hilly country. I started by leaving the hills untouched and planting into standing stalks. I mapped the areas that was tilled and compared yield data that fall. I could not tell any difference in the yield for 2 years. After that I went all in trying rolled before vs. rolled after, coulter/whipper combo vs. whippers alone and different planting directions. What I've settled on is floating trash whippers ( shark tooth and spiked work the same), plant on 5° slant, and harvest with the old corn rows. I use Deltaforce at 100# for downpressure, but you will need to experiment to find out whatot is best for your fields.
With your experimenting have you found it works better rolling before or after planting? |
