One thing most people don't plan for is that if you carry a crop forward you may get more for it than you plan on. Many plan on selling corn for the price it is today but next year it may well be more. If it turns off dry your applied fertilizer will help a suffering plant produce a better crop. If it turns off dry those few bushels extra can bring pretty good money. ( Think 2012) If it turns of wet the plant will be trying to out do itself and need more nutrients so you still gain.
