Subject: RE: Explain this to me- Concealed Carry

Southern Ab
My wife and I were in the Las Vegas Flamingo in Dec 1986. We were playing the penny slots right by the double set of front doors. Our backs were about 3 feet from the glass. A guy comes in and just loiters in that space between the two sets of doors for a couple minutes. He was there long enough that we kind of noticed him but there was nothing to really stick him in you mind. All of a sudden he steps into the casino and fires three shots above everybodies heads into the glass on the far side of the casino. Then he's onto the street and gone... There was that few seconds where people are looking around waiting for some clue as to what should happen. Then someone screamed and it was like a wave of people heading in the other direction. Some just hit the floor and stayed still. There was maybe half a dozen of us in that corner that knew what had happened and I think our mistake was we knew the threat was gone and we stayed on our feet. In those few seconds I bet there were five -six guys with guns drawn all pointed in our direction. I swear they were all part of the crowd just seconds before. No uniforms. No badges. Just cc security blending in with the rest of us schmucks. I just remember that of that bunch most played it cool but there were a couple that wanted to be heroes and get the bad guy. They were just itching to shoot somebody. And our little group was the obvious threat. All the guns were pointed our direction but those two guys were going to shoot to kill.. no doubt in my mind. My wife very slowly dropped to her knees with her hand on my belt pulling me down too. now there was shouting and a lot of noise on the street so all attention was drawn outside. Looking back I guess it all played out as it should. I really don't have any big point to make. Just that a gun can be concealed very well. I'm thinking the casino security works very hard at that. I've been to Vegas once since then and I was constantly looking for a bulge or a strap or anything to show a weapon. Haven't seen a thing. As for those two aggressive guys I'm not sure if they were just two cocky rookies or maybe that's how it was supposed to play out. Some guys hold back and cover the whole scene and some push forward.
The casino staff had those mirrors fixed so quick I couldn't believe it. In five minutes it was if nothing had happened. Most people who saw it go down just left and the newcomers were unaware so all returned to normal.
We did very well on the slots for the next little while. I think they loosened up the odds to get things going again.
Just a footnote the shooter holed up in a hotel downtown and was shot by police about 12 hours later.
