Noone is making a big deal of this or blowing anything out of proportion.


I would guess burning for several years strait...heck, even a decade strait might not show phenotypical responses....that doesn't mean damage isn't beginning to happen. One can mine the soil of P and K for a long period of time without noticable yield reduction. That doesn't mean there isn't a degradation of nutrients in the soil.


Your anecdote that hangs on soil with 8-10% OM is not even applicable. With that great of soil, they could probably burn everything for decades and not see a problem. That still doesn't mean its the best management practice.


I stand by what I said....burning residue is short sighted and not in the best interest of the soil. Read up on Romanian soils and the problems they are seeing if you want to learn a bit more of the long term effects.
