SW “Ohia” | The milk truck driver being a 365 day job is a good point. Grandpa considered buying a bulk route back in the late 1970's, but he decided against it.
Roads in rural North-Central Kentucky were terrible at that time (many still are), to the point that him and his coworkers were issued Chevrolet Corvairs as work cars. Being rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive, they were the only cars that could traverse the sloppy roads in winter outside of a pickup or heavy truck.
Dad talks about sitting at the kitchen table while Grandpa and Grandma crunched numbers on the route purchase, but bad weather and being married to the job were brought up continuously. | |
