CommonCentsGuy - 7/26/2014 15:19 Actually that 2nd ear is never a positive.

That depends.

If you get an exceptionally good growing season and every plant out there has a filled out ear on it how could 2nd ears be bad?
We've got some corn on sandy ground planted at a low population because it usually burns up anyway but in a wet year like this it sets double ears.    Now we just need a couple good rains to fill them or they'll schrivel up to feed the 1st ear.

I know that in a perfect world we would have planted more seed but unless you can tell what the summer weather will be like prior to planting you just do the best you can with what you know and what we know is that in a normal yrs that ground can't handle any more plants.
