Subject: Re: Phosphorus in High PH soils

Red River Valley, MN
Not trying to fix anything per se...just dont want to set myself up for trouble 10-15 yrs down the road because I quit attempting to build the P levels today.

Typical rainfall for our farm is 20" per year. The tile pumps ran the 2nd half of May and 1st half of June and then by the 4th of July weekend we hit a micro drought till the 2nd week in September. The drain tile made the crop in June. On a good year we can average 170+ bu corn. Year in and year out we 150-160bu range catches most of the bushels with 82-88 day corn. Getting enough growing degree days are what makes our corn crop.

The sulfur levels havent moved in 20+ years. We vary rarely show nutrient deficiencies, and when we do it is usually because we lost too much fall applied N due to a wetter than expected spring or flooding. Which is why I think we are getting the most bang for our buck with the 10-34-0 and really question how much benefit the MAP has provided over the years. Will look into Avail also.
