Subject: RE: How thick does wheat have to be to maximize yields in the south

north west arkansas
Several years ago I cut some wheat for a neighbor and it was planted at a bushel to the acre. The wheat yielded 60 bushel to the acre and for that year 60 was actually a very good yield. I had 400 acres of wheat planted at 2 bushel and my yield was not any better to speak of. Any more I try to be around 1,250,000. seeds per acre and this year we have used a ton of seed, but with the extremely dry conditions I was worried about how much seed we might not get up. On treated wheat a little talc will really help it flow. On my drill I have to set it 40 pds heavier to get the correct seeding rate on treated wheat.
