Having the land base to feed your own stock is a huge asset. There may be some times when you may feel that you are doing all the livestock work for nothing, when grain prices are high. But things will at some point cycle back to a time when the livestock side will be more profitable than the crop side. Having your own grain to feed will help weather these times. If you enjoy farrow to finish and have family support and ideally have a family labor supply, more power to you, IMO.
