Excellent point!  I would be in favor of consulting with my tax person, and using whatever system they use. 

Personally, I have used perception from red wing since 1985.  It is difficult to learn, but can produce some excellent reports for farming.

I use QuickBooks for treasurer of the local airport, and am amazed at the reports I can produce for every board meeting very easily.  I'm not so sure it is so good for farming detail, but I used to do a lot of spreadsheets for cost of production, seemed easier than relying on the accounting system to produce.

Being on the same page financially with your auditor and tax preparer (as well as the banker) is very important.
