It's beyond me, it's a deal with the Devil.

Companies like China's authoritarian stability, massive cheap labor, and anything goes regulations. They also see that manufacturing there by government dictate is the only way to participate in their closed consumer economy. They don't want to be locked out of this growing market, so agree to whatever. Besides, the crooked C-Suite can get giant bonuses for expanding in China and get out of Dodge. There is no long game for most executives, they don't own the company, it's not their name, they want money, they don't care.

Our national trade policy should encourage companies to have diverse supply chains and not congregate in a large, hostile nation. It should also recognize that we can't and don't even want a lot of these jobs anyway and we benefit when someone sends us tangible things for paper.
