I would guess that there are a lot of guys reading this that probable don't realize that a 60 cent or more basis is fairly common in this area. It is pretty easy to be $50 to $100 an acre less income just from the basis being so much wider in our area. The current new crop bean bid is about $7.90. It will take 100 bushels of corn to pay the rent but 35 bu. of beans just to pay the rent. What do you think their average bean yield is in that area? I would guess around 45. I also heard of $270 an acre rent about 20 miles straight west of my place this fall on a 5 year contract.
