Reducing population in beans isn't as significant as in corn for moisture concerns. And in corn you have to be under 13k seeds to reduce evapotranspiration (ET). That's just from a water amount standpoint. If you have a limited plant available nutrient situation, then reducing populations comes into play sooner with less of reduction needed to get positive results.

Beans don't need high populations unless you have IDC or some shallow layer of salts or some reason for not getting very good percent of final stand. Seed is higher quality today than bin run years ago too.

This is where vrt population really comes in. You probably only need 50k-75k final stands in your good zones and 100k to 200k depending on how poor in the other zones.

Without knowing your operation and soil, I would say your seeding too high reguardless of the moisture situation. Changing a few thousand or even 10k isn't going to change a drought outcome in beans in most zones. The only true way to know is to plant learning blocks in various zones on your fields and ground truth.
