Sorry for your loss, a workshop is like a best friend that is always there for you.
Your insurance agent should inform you of your coverage and what else is available on your policy. Your agent should always be in your corner.
Your insurance agent and their adjuster are your best friends, listen to what they have to say. If you and the adjuster can`t work together, you can ask for a different adjuster.
Take lots of pics, this will help you identify your stuff.
After it cools and the inspector has done their job of determination or cause, it is now your turn. Get some big yellow tablets and a friend.
1. Itemize everything ( use yellow tablets) in the center of the building on the floor not near the walls, you don't need values yet, take pics. These can now be moved out or left in place.
2. Start by a door and itemize (yellow tablets again) everything near the walls, work clockwise or counter clockwise, dig out items that might be buried under the mess, in metal drawers/cabinets, take pics.
A. You will find things you haven`t seen in a while.
B. Some stuff you won`t recognize, don`t dwell on it.
3. It will be a very nasty/dirty job and will help you in replacing your tools and other stuff.
4. Once you have everything itemized on paper it is time to place a value on the items.
In 2001 had a fire that started in garage attached to the house. Garage destroyed, some fire damage to house, smoke damage throughout house. Could not live in the house for almost six months while the garage and house were rebuilt and cleaned.
Did all of the above and had a very good experience with the insurance company.
Good luck. Stuff can be replaced. A life not so much. smooth
