Near-north Ontario, French River | I thought the pause was primarily related to logistics.. the Germans we low on just about everything and wanted to resupply, and yes rest their forces, before attempting to defeat the British and French forces at Dunkirk. Had they know how dire the situation was they could have continued their push and evicted allied forces from the European continent. But they didn't, and the British were able to assemble their unlikely fleet of tiny boats to evacuate the forces. Had weather, or lack of small boats etc, prevented those smaller vessels from crossing the channel history might have been much different .The Germans made a grave miscalculation but the Allies also got extremely lucky.
