Central Alberta | Hitler could have wiped out the British at Dunkirk, but he didn't for various reasons. His troops were exhausted and needed time to rest and regroup. But Hitler was also a great admirer of the British Empire and he had always hoped for an alliance with them. He is said to have had a personal collection of British movies glorifying the British Empire, which he watched avidly. At that point, I'm sure he considered the British finished, and that they would agree to an alliance similar to that of Vichy France. He didn't want the job of managing the far-flung Empire. Besides, the US was neutral at that time, and he had no reason to believe that would change. | |
