Did this neighbor read the abstract properly? Did this neighbor pay taxes on this parcel, and is it possible your landlord thought he was paying the taxes on this parcel, and actually wasn't? Maybe some more conversation is needed. Maybe you will be able to pay a rent to this neighbor, and still farm the field as you have been?
