Southwestern Minnesota | I would say for a 1-2# package- 1 day (24 hours) to thaw. For 3-4# about 2 days. If you want it to be marinated, then I would get it thawed first and then put on the marinade. Once it's thawed you would still have around three days to use it. If you marinade it, then you would want to use it sooner. If you use the microwave to defrost it, even on the defrost settings, you get often hot spots and that can affect the quality. But that is safer than leaving it on the countertop for an extended period of time. The problem with that method is that the outside thaws faster than the middle and bacteria can start growing on the outside of the meat. If you heat it properly then you should be able to kill the bacteria and be fine, but it is always safer to thaw it in the refrigerator. | |
