1 hour east of ol cheyenne | The early 4020s have the best pto lever I have ever used on any tractor. They can be slipped in slow and do not " jar" the implement like the 20 series side console with hydraulic engagement do. The 30 series and newer are a bit better but still can be touchy to engage but the biggest thing is disengaging the pto. Very easy on the early 20 series to shut off the pto and let it coast to a stop. The later hydraulic engaged ptos it is easy to " overshoot" and the brake slams the pto to a stop moving any " slack" at sheer bolts, joints spines etc.... To the opposite side then if it slams in next time turned on it breaks the sheer bolts as the power has a run at the slack. The hydraulic ones work good just can be a bit tricky to engage/disengage slowly or gently especially from the ground. I cut a T shaped piece of plastic to fit the dash of our 4640 to keep from engaging the brake on the grain cart we used to use it on when shutting the pto off saved ALOT of sheer bolts on that old cart as it would coast to a stop and not slam/bang stopped if you went 1/4" too far with the lever. |
