SE SoDak | Agreed. Organic at a national level? Laughable. As a small niche? Sure, why not? I have a couple of organic neighbors, and yes, their thistle patches annoy me. However I also recognize they are supporting their families on very limited acres. They don't need to get bigger, and honestly can't, as they already need every hour of labor they have to do what they do.
We bemoan the death of our small towns and the small number of family farmers left in our communities. This is a solution for those that want to put in the (massive) work required, and who only have a couple hundred acres and a few head of cattle. If the urban elite want to pay extra dollars for organic product, let 'em do it. Organic farmers have found a market niche. Good for them. They are producing a Mercedes for the elite. I'm producing a Ford. There is room in the market for both. | |
