Southern MN | Not to worried about rented ground. There are organic fields in our area that you cannot tell the difference from conventional. It can be done but there is no easy button. I am too proud and hate weeds too much to let it become a weedy mess, so my venture into organic may be very short lived.
And yes if you did not have access to approved manure sources I am assuming a person would be tempted to be spreading commercial fertilizer at night, unless you can make a “regenerative” system work. In our area there are so many sources of animal fertilizer that are fairly easy to get approval for I have no idea why you would cheat.
