If we have a major drought like 2012. My plan is to chop every acre of corn for silage, collect a huge insurance check and evaluate if I want to cash that check and sit on it or buy corn to feed. Maybe I’ll just sit out a year of feeding and play with my cows. Financially 2012 was a home run, took that insurance check and filled the bins......feeding cattle in 2013 was a push. I’ve gotten a lot of T-shirts over the years, don’t need two of a kind. 2021 feels good cattle wise, and the crops are financially supported by insurance with this huge rally in grains. Time will tell what 2021 has in store, but one has to study the cards playing poker ;).


Still have around 150 acres of established alfalfa to harvest all summer.
