Less physical work but proportionally more stressful and larger economic risk than prior generation.
Off farm classmates had consistent expectations of school or work and after receive salary proportional to their abilities and the stresses are what to do this weekend occupies half their though processes. Get paycheck, play, retire quietly.
I would take freedom of farming over their full lives at a portion of the pay. Monetarily I make big decisions monthly what they may make once in a lifetime. One's perspective and risk tolerance would answer who has easier life.
^^^^ This is what I think as well. I certainly do not work as many hours as my Dad or Grandfather did. I feel like I have a lot more political pressures and regulation thru my 9-5 and with the farming. It seems like the hoops you have to jump thru to stay in the game has grown with every passing year. Im sure my grandfather didnt have to deal with the EPA, pesticide licenses, crop insurance, CAUV, random drug tests , employer stalking your social media to see if you are in compliance with their views , etc. |
