I have never done it, but some of feedlots here are going to sws wheat instead of barley, some years it tonnes out as good or better than corn in our area and doesn't cook so bad during the heat. I know straw wise, I get 1.5 as many straw bales on SWS wheat as I do HRS and twice as many as I do barley straw. You would have no issues feeding to cows straight up, maybe even ad some straw to make use of the excess protein.
