South central ne
We have switched to wheatlage 100% for backgrounding our grass yearlings, going on 7 or 8yrs. We put 95 day corn behind it and take to grain, has been our most profitable practice last few years but have had long falls to make it work. All under a pivot, 2 or 3 inch in fall after beans. Spring we put 100#N on and put the water to it...have usually 14-16ton/acre, last year was 11ton with a late spring frost to hold it back. I like it over corn silage for palatibility on getting calves switched to TMR, doesnt seem like we have the bloat problems like we did feeding starchy corn silage, but just my experience.
