Western Oregon | The Sheriffs office here has a "shop with an officer" program where each child on the list gets to go to Walmart to pick out something for themselves and each member of their family, with an officer. Neat program, kids get to see the other side of the police. These are children the officers have come into contact with on patrol. The city has no police force so the Sheriffs office has a presence in town, a school officer that also has an office at the fire hall/community center but mostly can be seen in the community, football games, etc. They have had drive around town parades this year along with the fire trucks, lights and sirens, waving, honking. I have seen 4-6 patrol cars sometimes. No 4th of July parade this year but the officers took their time to have a drive around with a local 4 wheeler group. Drive the route all around town, no stopping....James | |
