South Georgia
Would it not be beneficial for the cattle industry in general if the cost of regulation was raised on very large facilities?
It seems to me that would give a disincentive for that sector to concentrate and integrate. I farm in the Southeast. Cattle aren't fed in this region, only chickens. The poultry business is fully integrated and concentrated. Only a handful of very large companies own the chicken from hatching until it is sold at the grocery store. I personally don't want that for the beef industry. I think I would be in favor of legislation that gave a farmer-feeder an edge over an enormous operation owned by a big packer.
