South Georgia | Would it not be beneficial for the cattle industry in general if the cost of regulation was raised on very large facilities?
It seems to me that would give a disincentive for that sector to concentrate and integrate. I farm in the Southeast. Cattle aren't fed in this region, only chickens. The poultry business is fully integrated and concentrated. Only a handful of very large companies own the chicken from hatching until it is sold at the grocery store. I personally don't want that for the beef industry. I think I would be in favor of legislation that gave a farmer-feeder an edge over an enormous operation owned by a big packer. | |
