SW MN - mt. lake/windom
It is beneficial for the livestock industry. It would allow US producers to adopt a model similar to European models of food production domestically whereas the farms produce a product not a commodity for the end user and typically diversify there farming operation with a wider array of agriculture products. This in my opinion is going to be driven by raising the cost of food in the US thus giving economies of scale less advantage. I don’t see us ever getting away from commodities completely since we export 15-30 percent of Ag products to other countries. The question is, do you want a government regulated program that is going to have negotiate consequences as all regulated programs do or do you want a free trade driven system that allows the industry and businesses to do what’s best for the business? A government program will allow more producers to adopt a new product business model over commodity model with lower risk involved but in turn the returns or rewards are reduced equivalently. It’s a socialistic approach in theory. At the end of the day, those who are successful at business will be able to adapt in either free trade or govt controlled systems and excel.
