Subject: RE: receiving cattle protocol

We receive calves only with shots in them. Put in pens and feed with bale processor for 2.5 to 3 days in bunks with prairie hay to get them used to coming to bunks. Then we go to 50% ground grass hay and 50% silage for a couple days. After that it is onto a starter ration with a little corn and liquid along with ground hay and silage. Slowly step up from there. Sometimes we will give shots sometimes not. Feed all the grass hay right away to help with bloat issues. Right or wrong i dont know but seems to work for us.
