Subject: RE: If a hoax - Truth?

I admit I am ignorant about many things.

I am truly trying to understand what fake news is and why people fall for it? I find it hard to believe that both sides of the political spectrum aren't participating in manipulative techniques to secure their base but why do people think they are immune to this manipulation? Are they so much smarter, have more common sense, have inside information?

When people use pejorative statements like "follow your lib leaders over that socialist cliff", they show that their non-ignorant mind is equally susceptible to manipulation. Making sure that someone who may or may not agree is in their proper tribe or on the "right" side of the line, diminishes their own argument. It's not from logic, it's from emotion. People are so invested in their own position that they are unwilling and unable to accept that maybe their position may not be perfectly argued. People can't admit that they may be wrong and they resort to ad hominem attacks.

It would be nice if all people could step back from the emotional reactions to things. This country has become so divided over everything. I want to understand what happened.
I sit at the coffee shop and listen to people take such hard positions instead of trying to learn from each other and make each other less ignorant.
