Those work well, when I'm fighting fire and have to cut the fence, I always try to cut in middle of the span. Takes longer to clear the wire to drive through, but it's easier for the landowner to fix than next to the post. You were right in the post above though. At least 50% of the time it seems like there's a gate obscured by smoke, or around here, behind a wild plum or other scrub brush thicket close by.
