NE South Dakota Clark, SD | Soils maps were never designed to VR off of. They are fair representations of the field at best. Most are poor. They miss most of the detail of a field. In most areas topography/water has more affect on yield that soils. Using soils maps is easy, so that is why they get used. Usually the easy answer is not the best answer.
I hope Becks program has added the ability to clean up yield data, a few years ago I saw some seed maps from them here on Ag Talk that made me cringe. You could tell they were created with raw yield data by looking at the headlands. |
