western colorado | GOMSK - 6/3/2020 20:35 1.90 dressed 1280 # steer. Im even going to add dollars to price of steer and just say $1600 for finished steer. (1280# probably $1450) $1600 plus $680 Processing cost (again, not federally inspected). $2280. (Cheaper for just hamburger) I got approximately 780# of hamburger. 60.9% yield. $2280 / 780# = $2.92 Its all paid for...so there is virtually no wiggle in the expenses for me. The second one i did was $750 processing for about 40 more pounds of animal and got steaks out of. Again, my steer i dont resell, i dont have to have federal inspection. Not sure how much extra that is, but i will tell you in 3 weeks. Local processor does say its 4.20 for hamburger at his shop, but its federally inspected.
That yield number isn't right. You loose another 40% off your hanging weight from trim and bones. |
