Actually I think the same problem could very well occur with front mounted booms. Basically what happens is that the antenna offset is being reversed when you back up. So in a case of a front mounted boom you may have a negative offset from the antenna (not much). When you back up with a negative offset, the equipment bar will jump to the back...
The solution as mentioned should be the manual "turn off autoboom" but if the Viper makes this difficult....
In general you could reduce the problem by having antenna and booms closer together, ideally zero.
