Wisconsin | It's not the engineering that's holding this back, it's the marketing. Not even Mahindra wants to be the first to introduce a GAS TRACTOR, that'd be like putting PRIUS styling on a RAM. Like building a simple car/truck/suv, it's not going to happen, if you want a cheap simple reliable one, you buy used. Nobody is going to make money catering to the small minority who want something sensible. Build a sensible vehicle with NO flash, and you'll sell a couple to farmers, a couple to old maids, an occasional nun, and a whole lot of people will like the idea but decide to buy used.
I think it could be much cheaper than a diesel. A common rail injection system and exhaust treatment is a lot more money than the gas equivalents. The problem is the engine would be a one off, wouldn't share anything with automotive, would have to be low RPM/ high torque. Like the CNG engines in semis, a diesel engine that's got gas parts on it. | |
